OK so I took a look at my calendar for next month and here are the dates that I am available to GM starting next month.

  • Sept 4 Wednesday but would prefer we do a location closer to Arvada as I have work the next day
  • Sept 6 Friday but would prefer we do a location closer to Arvada as I have work the next day
  • Sept 13 Friday can drive to where-ever to meet-up, would prefer somewhere in the middle
  • Sept 14-15 Sat/Sun are currently open as well so could do a session on one of those days.
  • Sept 27 -29 Fri/Sat/Sun are currently open as well so could do a session on one of those days.

The Wizard's Chest is doable http://wizardschest.com/wordpress/ and kind of in the middle.

Double Dragon Games https://www.doubledragongames.com/ is in the middle as well.

Need to confirm if Game Heroes does open RPG nights http://gameheroesonline.com/contact/

As for characters, I prefer starting with the regular XP amount and we can boost if it need be.

I have most the books and am open for any of the settings.

If you have one or two friends that want to join, that sounds good. That way we will always have at least 2-3 if we have a pool of 5.

Matt- are you still interested in playing?

Are Thursdays no good for you Nick?

I will check with the others on whether or not those locations will work for them and let you know what their schedules look like.

Are you cool with using the Legendary Starting Character rules that they have on here?

I can forward the character setup to this convo if anyone is not familiar with the rules.

I can do some Thursday normally, just not in September unfortunately. After looking at the calendar I either have work or personal conflicts with Thursday nights.

I am not familiar with the Legendary Starting Character rules but I not fan of characters becoming omnipotent or over powerful. As a GM if there is little to no risk for the character's success it not as fun for me to run. I am not saying that characters cannot advance to that level but if they start with 300 +XP it will make anything less than a Nemisis feel challenging. I guess it depends on the type of game that everyone wants to play.

Apologies, busy week (internship tying up and school starting Monday) I definitely am still interested in joining.

Since Mondays are out, I'd prefer Tuesday or Wednesday. Thursday may be doable. It's currently my gaming night with my other group, but it's a couple college buddies online, so I might be able to flex that to another night. Fridays (and most of the weekends) I watch my kids, so that may be possible with advance notice, but I wouldn't be able to do that regularly.

Also, apologies, but if possible (at least until I have a handle on how full time class and part time job is going to work) I'd only be able to make it once every two weeks.

Mondays and Wednesdays I have class downtown (Auraria campus) until 6:15pm, so I can play after that (and travel time).

Tuesday and Thursday I'm somewhat more flexible, but in general, I'm probably going to be off work around 5pm in Westminster. I apparently work really close to Lair of Abraxas (which you mentioned earlier), I'm not sure if that's too far out of the way.

According to the google reviews, it looks like Double Dragon may or may not be there? I couldn't load their calendar other than October 2018. Since I'll be in the neighborhood Monday I'll swing by and see.

I could also probably swing the Wizard's Chest if it works best for everyone.

I don't have much experience playing. I've run the EOTE beginner game twice for family and friends, but apparently I'm not enough of a GM to sell a bunch of TTRPG newbies. I've been playing in several PbPs, but that's not quite the same. I haven't played either of the other two starters.

As for playstyle, so far I've mostly played int based characters (Medicine, Mechanics, Knowledge), so mostly support. My characters are usually pretty well rounded characteristics wise (I shoot for some variant of a 4 3's and 2 2's, unless I'm in a big party) I do have a soft spot for the Sentinel career if we end up going F&D. I also like the high agility pilot/gunslinger or assassin type. I'm fairly easygoing as long as my character has a niche.

I'm cool with normal starting XP. The most I would want to start with is Knight Level (and probably only if we were FAD characters). I like to grow into the abilities I have and would rather have regular XP than a large dump and the beginning and very little/no growth.

I prefer a mix of linear and sandbox, but if I had to chose between the two, I guess sandbox.

I'm happy with any of the 3 cores, though I'd prefer EOTE or FAD.

I'll check my calendar what I can make. I think the 4th will work, and I could probably make one of the Fridays or weekends work, depending.

The problem for me is that my Jujitsu classes are Mon & Wed from 8-930pm.  Fridays are from 6-730pm.  That makes it a bit hard to be able to game those days for me.  Tuesdays work pretty good as i only go to the class on Tuesday if I miss Monday.

Would a Tuesday work Nick?

As for the meet-up location goes, where do you all live?
I live in Aurora so depending on where everyone else lives we might be able to figure out a good central location that will work for all of us.

Hoping that we will be able to work out a day that will work for each of our rather complicated schedules.

I will see if I can do some Tuesdays. I cannot do the 3rd as it is booked.

I will look at the remainder of Tuesdays for September. However, I really prefer a night that I do not have work the next day as I get up at 6AM for work and do not want to have to rush a session or end up staying out past 10:30 PM.

As for location, I am down to try the Wizard's Chest.

I'm not opposed to getting together a few times irregularly, especially as we're getting established, but it'd be nice to lock in a day every other week for future planning.

It sounds like Thursdays may be most convenient for everyone (at least post September), so I'll ping my current group and see if they don't mind switching days.

In the meantime, I can confirm Double Dragon Games doesn't exist at the downtown Google Maps location anymore.

I live pretty far west, in unincorporated Jeffco just west of Lakewood/Denver/Littleton, but I'm downtown for school Monday and Wednesday evenings (get out at 6:15) and will most likely be up in Westminster for work Tuesday and Thursdays (get off around 5pm)

As it is, maybe we can meet one or two times in September, one as session 0 and one beginner game? I mean, we don't even know if we're going to gel as a group yet and continue on(no offense, I'm sure you're all lovely people).

Thanks for confirming about Double Dragon, Matt.

I agree, lets try to get a session or two in next month and see if we gel. In preparation for that I would like to get an e-mail thread going to start character creation and discuss so the first session can jump into play versus character creation. I am also open to changing a character after the first session if it is a career and specialization that either doesn't fit well with the group or is not played as anticipated.

As for locations I am down to try more than one and perhaps we can alternate to make driving easier for everyone at some point. So once we lock down a date, we will pick a place. I feel like everyone is already pretty busy so hopefully we can be flexible.

I like the idea of doing a few introductory sessions just to see how the group meshes.  It looks like we are at 3 players right now.  Myself, Matt, and Nick's friend with Nick being the DM.  Am I missing anyone?

As for character creation I found a set of rules for starting a Knight level character.  This would allow for some minor force abilities if you all are cool with that.  Here are the rules, let me know if this is something that you all would be interested in.

Knight Level Character Creation:
When you start at knight level like in beginner creation your species sets the starting XP.  Then after you create your initial character you can add an additional 150xp.  This additional XP can be spent on skills, talents, force powers, or additional specializations.  It cannot be spent on characteristics like beginning XP.  With knight level you cannot have a skill rank above 3.  Like in beginner creation you start with 500 credits to buy non-restricted gear.  But you also gain a signature item that is hallmark of your career, specialization, or race.  For example a mechanic gets a pit crew of pit droid minions, a Jedi gets a basic Lightsaber, an Ace Pilot an X-wing, or a Wookiee a Bowcaster.  If you can’t come up with a signature item you can always take additional starting credits in the amount of 9000 credits.

Finally you can adjust your core mechanic (Duty, Obligation, or Morality) and gain more XP or Credits

For 5 additional Obligation or Less Duty
 - 5 bonus XP or 1000 bonus credits

For 10 additional Obligation or less Duty
 - 10 bonus XP or 2500 bonus credits
 - 5 Bonus XP & 1000 bonus credits

What do you all think?

Also do we have some dates in mind so we can see which dates work for everyone?
Lastly, as I am still new to the Denver/Aurora area, what places seem to be the best idea for everyone?

Looking forward to getting back into the Star Wars RPG.

Just curious to know if you all are still interested in trying to get together for an initial gaming session to see how the group meshes?

Hi there,

Yes I am still interested. I was on vacation but am back now. So lets settle of a date and time and then we can dive in character creation.

I have a couple of thoughts on the first session, let me know if you agree.

Setting: Edge of the Empire 2 years before the A New Hope (Battle of Yavin)
Starting Location: Outer Rim, Old Clone Wars Refueling depot in the Kegan System.
Starting Obligation will be 10 (assuming 3-4 players)

I am familiar with the Knight Level starting XP but since we will not be playing Force and Destiny, I would prefer normal starting XP. I am fine with anyone being Force Sensitive and learning Powers as we go.

Thoughts?

Greetings!

I'm still interested. Sorry about the delay. School just started up and the in-laws were in town for the holiday weekend so it's been a bit chaotic.

I'm up for setting up a date and time. MW I'm downtown until 6:30ish, TTh I'm in Westminster until 5ish.

I'm also up for exchanging emails and talking character creation or campaign logistics. I'd PM you guys my email but I think you've both got PMs disabled.

The setting, starting location, and obligation all sound great! Likewise, I'm on board for starting XP, (the XP bonus seemed to be for force users to have a few powers at CC, but 9000 credits is a bit excessive, though a signature item could be fun (probably not a starship or a high rarity item, you'd want something to work towards))

I kind of figured that the holidays were making things "fun" for everyone.

M W I have jujitsu classes at 8pm, Fridays the class is at 6pm, but T TH I am normally home before 5pm so if possible I would prefer those days.
I am willing to travel to make T TH work if it makes things easier for you guys.

The whole xp and credits thing is just how I was told a Knight lvl character is made.
I am cool with just starting as a basic character and working up from there.
Are there any race restrictions for the game?

Hoping we can work out days that work for everyone.

Hi guys,

I think Thursday seem to work best, I can move some things around this month to make it happen and Thursdays are not typically an issue going forward. Here are the Thursday that work for Tony and I: 9/19 and 9/26.

Since Matt is in Westminster, I say we try Lair of Abraxas. It is only 20 minutes from Tony and I but understand it will be a bit further for Thomas. I sent the Lair an e-mail asking how to reserve a table or if it is first come first serve. If it is the later then perhaps Matt can head straight there and grab us a table. I am thinking we can all be there by 6ish? Is that do-able? The Lair has drink (booze and non-alcoholic) . I am not sure about food but I will plan on just eating before hand and perhaps bringing some snacks.

If we start around 6 PM I would like to end by 10 PM so we do not make it too late a night but am flexible.

I sent Tom and Matt a private message with my e-mail address so please e-mail me from your preferred e-mail account when you get a chance and we will get character creation going.

I have no race restrictions as long as they are in the RPG books and a player race (aka not a rancor). This site has a good listing and indicates which are player ones. It might not be 100% up to date but good basis. I have almost all the books so if it references one you do not have let me know  and I will provide the stats.

So some of you mentioned having friends that might want to play, if they are available or if they at least want to be on the e-mail thread please copy them when you e-mail me. Once I have everyone's e-mails I will start the thread. I have ben working on the intro adventure this week and have a decent start for the first session.

Cheers,

Nick
