I don't see an image attached... but my suggestion is that before you do "import" click the pull down for data sets and see how many (and what) you currently have listed. Might need to remove some older ones before new one works.

Trying to figure out how this one works,  missed the 'Insert Inline' button... here it is.  and I'm not sure I understand what you mean by the data sets..  I've gone through what is listed on the menu, and cross checked by visually checking the file itself.  The Specialization file shows that almost everything is filled in, but the Character Generator is not recognizing the various datas beyond what I stated earlier.SW Char Gen Error Mssg.png

Step 1 Open DATA EDITOR
Step 2 at top of Data editor screen there is "Data Set" list with a pull down arrow.
Step 3 click on "arrow" button and see what data sets are currently loading.

One of the current data sets you have loaded has info in it that conflicts with the latest zip file, that is what the error message is saying.

To fix it, you need to remove the older (out-dated) data set..

This is totally messing with my head. I logged out of the Character Generator Data Editor, then I deleted everything including all subfolders in the C:\Users\name\AppData\Roaming\SWCharGen\DataCustom\DataSet_Full DataSet  directory, started the Data Editor, and selected the Full DataSet (I've only got 2, Default and Full DataSet).  The empty folders were generated.  I then ran the import routine, and got the exact error message but the folder listed above and all generated sub folders are empty.

That would be because the data file may not be in the roaming folder. It maybe stored in another folder in a different location from an older version of the creator. That was why I recommended to use the data editor to remove the files and not delete folders directly.

Sooo, maybe try these steps, and see if you can do them, if not, don't worry tonight I will post the steps with screenshots to help. BUT, I have a feeling you can do this pretty easily.

Step 1 Open DATA EDITOR
Step 2 at top of Data editor screen there is "Data Set" list with a pull down arrow.
Step 3 click on "arrow" button and see what data sets are currently loading.
Step 4 select any data set that is not "default" and then click "remove" button
Step 5 repeat steps 3 and 4 as needed until you are back to just "default"

THEN try importing the new zip file and see if it doesn't work correctly 😉

Thanks, in a couple hours you were able to guide me (even with my thick skull) through what I was trying to figure out for weeks...  it didn't help that I didn't recognize the 'remove' or 'import' buttons' functions for what they were.  All is working correctly now, and I can reprint my sheets in time for this evening's game.

One very strang thing, I was trying to import the data set to the OggDude's chargen, but whenever I tried it returned an error, now, I was with the data editor open and about to try, when mistakenly closed the opening screen (the screen where we choose which module to open), when I finally hit import on the Data Editor to import the data set, it was successfully imported. That's quite an odd behavior, and I wonder what really happened for it to suddenly work as it should be.

Does this kind if thing ever happened to anyone?

I cannot get it to install for the life of me.

I pulled down the "SWDataSet-OggDudes-master.zip" file but when I try to import it I get the error message that "the zip archive does not contain a valid data set".

Am I missing something?

Okay, having some issues with this. I downloaded the github file and replaced the data from the general oggdude stuff with the zip file from Oggdude, since it won't accept the zip file (it's saying it's not a valid data set).

Now I get these this:

Error 1.png

Error 2.png

Would love some assistance on this matter. I can always go back to the datafile before Big Tent went under, of course, but I'm trying to keep up to date with this stuff.
