Hello,
I running a home brew EotE campaign and ended up in a position that a Sand Crawler full of Jawas stripped and stole all most everything from my PC's ship. The ship was in the middle of a nowhere hiding out. Unfortunately, a few bad rolls when landing they were spotted by the Jawa crawler.
So, the Jawas stole almost everything, 100K worth of credits, weapons, hyperdrive, shields, etc. The PCs are tracking down the crawler and will be attacking it with full authority of their rage. They are heavily armed with blasters. So how do I make this encounter interesting?
The PC will catch the crawler, that wont be an issue.
So do the Jawas have a squad of droids at their command?
A special port opens up and a heavy blaster cannon is deployed as defense?
looking for interesting ideas to defend a sand crawler and provide a health challenge for my PCs.
thanxs

Ok for starts I want you to picture in your head the first time we ever saw a Jawa in Star Wars Episode IV.  R2-D2 is rolling through a rocky area of Tatooine.  Some rocks crumbling and you spot a Jawa for a second then it was gone.  Then another flash was he there he there or was it a figment of your imagination the heat of the twin suns playing tricks on you.  Suddenly a Jawa jumps out of nowhere and ionizes the droid.

This is how your encounter should go.  The PCs find the sand crawler parked but as they approach the Jawa's scatter away into hiding.  To reach the Sand Crawler they must travel through a rocky outcropping.  They surround the PCs.  They are there, yet they are no there.  They ambush the PCs.

Once the PCs reach the sand crawler to recover their gear they encounter more of these scary and stealthy creatures.  As they enter they find themselves surrounded by droid minions who attack the PCs from the shadows.

Once the PCs recover their gear they find a few of the most valuable and rare items are no where to be found.  The Jawa's have already sold them off.  Then you must find someone who speaks botche who can translate the Jawa's records of who they sold the gear too.

Perhaps that is someone dangerous and the PCs have a real fight on their hands.

My suggestion is to make it creepy and a bit of a mystery and if the PCs try to smash their way through they may miss clues that will lead them to their true destination.

Another complication could be that the sand crawler has meet up with another sandcrawler and the items have been split up making it a game of cat and mouse trying to recover the items.  Perhaps the PCs track down the wrong sand crawler.  They all look the same.

Maybe the PCs encounter a Stormtrooper patrol who do not look kindly on the PCs running around so heavily armed hunting Jawa's.  It is not like Jawa's are Tusken Raiders.  Jawa's are citizens of the planet.  So perhaps the Empire gets in the way or disarms the PCs down to less firepower.

I hope this has gotten your head thinking and ideas churning.

Thanxs! this is good. The Jawa already sold some of their stuff. they found tracks that lead them to know this. so they will need to figure out what they sold and to whom. so that they will need a Jawa alive or access to they computer system that speaks botchi. I like the ambush. Currently the PC are being hunted by the empire, so the longer they search for items the higher the chance the Imperial empire finds them.
Then just before the PC take over the sand crawler a call for help goes out. bring another encounter....
